Ready to get started with social media marketing for dentists? Great!

What should you do first? Post some photos? Record a video? Share a blog post?

Whoah, hold on! It’s great to be excited about your dental social media marketing, but just like any other marketing strategy, you need to have a plan first.

Hi, I’m Xaña Winans, Founder and CEO of Golden Proportions Marketing, one of the biggest and most experienced dental marketing agencies in the country. What exactly do you need to consider before you start creating dental social media posts? You’ll need to know who you’re trying to reach, what kind of content will grab their interest, and how often you’ll share your content.

Who are you trying to reach?

Just because EVERYBODY is on social media, that doesn’t mean you should try to appeal to all of them. Your content needs to focus on your ideal patient. Age, gender, family size, income, and interests are some of the primary traits to consider. Sharing content that is tailored for that audience will greatly increase the amount of engagement you generate, as well as the size of the online following you build.

What are you going to share?

Once you have your audience figured out, you need to decide what kind of content you’ll share with them. How much should be fun and how much should be educational? I will caution you to limit how much of it is promotional. Follow the 80/20 rule, and make sure that at least 80 percent of your posts are meant to engage with people, and not sell to them.

How often will you post?

Is there a magic formula for how often and when you should post your content? Not really, but I will tell you that consistency is the key. If you can post a few times a week, great. If you can post every day, even better. It will depend on how much time you have, how interesting your content is, and how engaged your audience is.
