Is your dental office sign generating enough dollar signs?

Whether you’re a new dental practice or well-established, you need to make sure your office’s outdoor signage is doing its part to bring in new patients.

Hi, I’m Alison Micheletti, Senior Dental Marketing Strategist at Golden Proportions Marketing, the most experienced dental marketing company in the country. Today I’ll share some tips to make sure your dental sign stands out and brings in lots of new patients.

Make it readable

Your signage should use fonts that are easy to read. Script or calligraphy type styles might seem fancy, but they’re too much work for eyes to decipher. Also keep color contrast in mind when designing your sign. You want to match the colors of your logo and other branding, but readability is also important. Dark colors on a white or light background are easiest to read.

Make it stand out

Bigger is better. You may be restricted by local ordinances or located in an office building or shopping center, but make your dental sign as big as you can so it stands out and you can easily fit your information.

If you are in your own building, select a location for your sign that gives you as much visibility as possible. A two-sided sign near the street that faces traffic in both directions would be ideal. Also, people don’t just pass by your office during the day. Keep your sign brightly lit so it can be seen around the clock.

Keep it simple

Just like billboards, most people will only see your sign for a few seconds as they drive by, so don’t overload it with information. Stick to the essentials to let people know who you are, why they should visit your office, and how they can contact you.

Dental sign language

Here are some of the key things a good dental sign should include:

Be obvious about what you do

In addition to your office’s name, make sure your “dentist” or “dental” are painfully obvious on your sign. If your practice specializes in cosmetic dentistry, implants, pediatrics, or family dentistry, you should also include that so people know what to expect.

Call me

Your phone number should be big and easy to read. If you have enough space, your website should be on there too. The “www” is a bit outdated these days, so as long as you have the “.com” at the end, people will recognize it as your web address.

Sell yourself

If you still have room left over, use a tagline or short message to let people know what makes you better than the competition. Even something as simple as “new patients accepted” or “emergencies welcome” can get new patients to think of you before your competitors.

Find the best person for the job

Finally, price is important when finding a dental sign maker, but also make sure they know what they’re doing. They should be fully aware of local ordinances and regulations related to signage. Finding out after the fact that your sign’s design or placement is not allowed will be a costly disappointment.
